This is my flatmate Crisol. Yes, Crisol. Not Crystal. Not Crystol. Crisol. Pronounced the same way it looks. She is my flatmate turned best friend and the one person I would gladly travel with anywhere in the world (and I mean anywhere) in a heartbeat.
She lived directly across from me in the biggest bedroom of the entire dorm hall. From awfully funny drunken nights to walks across the beautiful green campus to get Ben & Jerry’s and fire alarm mall scares (oddly specific) she was my absolute go to person and the one human being I could talk to about anything. We travelled all across Paris, London, Spain, and Amsterdam together and shared some really weird and unconventionally small Airbnb’s. From flooding the bathroom in Paris to sleeping in strange airports and living out of our backpacks for 9 days straight, we made it through some of the most awful travel scenarios I have yet to experience.
She is truly one of a kind and someone I consider family. I have never met anyone like her, with such a blunt way of telling you how it is (as a friend should do) while at the same time offering me an indescribable amount of kindness when I needed it the most, and I am so unbelievably thankful we fell into each other’s lives in the most gorgeous country on earth. As I have mentioned in other blog posts, I was terrified that I would not meet anyone abroad. I was so scared that I would be super ridiculously out of this world lonely. And I am sure you, if you are reading this post, might have the same fear I did. But rest assured! You will meet someone. I can’t assure you that they will be as beautiful and as soft spoken as Crisol, but I mean, she sets the bar so high it is kind of hard to beat.
